N.W.A (abbreviated for Niggaz Wit Attitudes) was an American hip hop group from Compton, California; they were widely considered to have been among the earliest and most significant popularisers of the gangsta rap. Active from 1986 to 1991, the rap group endured controversy which was owed to their music’s explicit lyrics, where they fearlessly glorified drugs and crime in order to show the world their everyday reality. In spite of this, the group had sold over 10 million units in the United States, was ranked 83rd on Rolling Stones “100 Greatest Artists of All Time” and was nominated for induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2012.
